Last season’s league winners Unicorn suffered their first defeat of the season on Saturday.

The Richmond team lost 3-2 to in-form Hawes, who beat title hopefuls Richmond Mavericks the week before.

Goals from Dan Richardson, Luke Wilkinson and Tom Calvert did the damage for Hawes.

Stuart Murray and Carl Handley netted for Unicorn.

In a tight game, Richmond Town Academy came out on top against Carperby. The Wensleydale team took the lead early on when James Spence’s cross field pass was fizzed across the box by Scott Alderson and Sam Lambert was on hand to finish at the back post.

Lee White was on hand to turn and finish from close range after a corner to level for Town.

Carperby’s Michael Dent failed to capitalise from the spot after he was taken down when he raced into the area, with Mark Walker in the Academy goal saving down to his right.

Carperby had a lot of the ball in the second half but didn’t create many clear cut chances thanks to some solid defensive performances for the Richmond visitors.

Lambert had a big penalty shout when Carperby twice felt he was fouled in the area while running in on goal, but the ref turned away their appeals.

Academy made them pay when Joe Ramsey was played through and he smashed home at the near post.

Elsewhere in the Scotts for Storage Wensleydale League, Richmond Mavericks beat Reeth 7-1 at home.

Owen Kelly and Sam Pickersgill both scored a brace for Mavs, while James Connelly netted for the visitors.

In the Medals Shield, Catterick Garrison and Spennithorne played out another cracking game in what was third close tie involving the sides already this season.

Catterick won the first by the odd goal and the score was 3-3 when the sides met a fortnight ago.

On Saturday, Catterick again prevailed but needed extra time after the game finished 2-2 in normal time.

George Catterall and Tim Holland scored for Catterick in extra time. James Smith pulled one back for Spenni but it came too late to spark a revival.
