It comes after the Newbiggin pub team won back to back games to close in on current league leaders Richmond Town Reserves.
After Town’s great finish to their campaign, Unicorn were left needing to win all three of their final games, and improve on their goal difference by at least seven.
Two goals from Ashley Lytollis and one from Clark Gunn saw them overcome Richmond Buck last Wednesday 3-1.
On Saturday, Unicorn had Tafari Nicholas to thank for helping then overcome Catterick Garrison.
The youngster scored four in the first half on his debut in a 5-2 win, with Nathan Fisher scoring the fifth.
Unicorn’s final game against Leyburn will be played on Thursday evening.
The two teams then meet again a week on Saturday in the final of the Dales Cup.
The visit to Middleham, where Leyburn currently play, could prove tricky, however, depending on which home side turns up.
If it’s the Leyburn which put six past Hawes on Saturday without reply Town could yet left the title.
Sam Lane and Luke Wilkinson both scored a brace, while Brandon Acton, whose brother Macauley was playing for the opposition, and Jack Hamond both got a goal apiece.
Elsewhere in the league, after Carperby ended Richmond Mavericks’ title hopes the week before you might have expected the Richmond team to be in the mood for revenge.
If was not to be, however as Carperby ran out 3-1 winners.
The Wensleydale team took the lead when Michael Dent skipped through a couple of challenges before finishing well.
It was soon two when Mavs failed to clear and the ball dropped to Scott Lambert who smashed home.
Mavs started the second half with only nine men due to a couple of injuries with no subs to replace them, but Carperby couldn’t take full advantage.
Mavericks battled well and even had chances of their own but James Metcalfe put the game beyond them when he burst forward to smash home from the edge of the area late on.
Mavs then pulled one back directly from the restart through James Stanger.
It was a good week for Reeth who beat Catterick Garrison 6-4 last Wednesday, with Ross Barnet getting four and James Connelly scoring twice.
Barnet and Connelly then shared the goals again in a 3-2 win over Spennithorne on Saturday.
Spenni’s goals were scored by Lee Thompson and Kalem Stanger.
