Unbeaten Unicorn have been declared this season’s winners of the Scotts for Storage Wensleydale League.
The Richmond team secured the three points they needed to secure the title with a 5-1 win away at Askrigg on Saturday.
The pitch quickly became a mud bath with players struggling to stay on their feet.
Unicorn went ahead when Luke McCormack got his first of the game after connecting with a Craig Teasdale pass.
McCormack got his second ten minutes later when he again combined with Teasdale before beating the defender and finding the bottom corner.
Unicorn keeper David Mutch grabbed an assist with a long punt forward that evaded everyone before finding McCormack who rounded the keeper to secure his hat-trick.
Oliver Reynolds, still worse for wear from the previous night, scored a fourth from a free-kick into the top corner after being felled outside the box.
Luke Dent pulled a goal back for Askrigg before the break after connecting with a ball over the top.
The deteriorating pitch made high-quality football difficult for both teams in the second half, with the only goal scored by Ethan Brown, who volleyed home to extinguish any optimistic thoughts of a comeback from the home team.
Carperby ran out convincing winners after a dominant first-half display against Reeth.
After a bright start, Owen Pratt put the Wensleydale side in front on eight minutes, connecting with a cross from Jimmy Spence.
Carperby got their second when 16-year-old Coen Pickard-Sparne won the ball back and ran through to get his first goal for the club on his home debut.
The home team soon got their third when a dangerous Eidur Pickard-Sparne corner was only cleared to the edge of the area where Owen Pratt controlled the ball before smashing it into the top corner.
There was more Carperby pressure, but their fourth didn’t come until six minutes before half-time when Eidur Pickard-Sparne played in Sam Lambert, who finished well with a lob over the keeper.
Carperby continued to pile on the pressure in the second half, with Sam Lambert, Coen Pickard-Sparne and Harry Davis all coming close to scoring.
It was 77 minutes before the home team got their fifth goal, however. After a nice piece of skill, Michael Dent played it through for Coen Pickard-Sparne to run onto and smash the ball home into the top corner.
James Metcalfe completed the scoring with a 25-yard strike after his brother Ben Metcalfe laid the ball to him.
Elsewhere, the game between Hawes and Richmond Town Academy was abandoned after 35 minutes due to a waterlogged pitch. The score was 1-1 at the time.
