Upgraded Shawl play area reopens in Leyburn

Hundreds of people attended the opening of the upgraded play area at the Shawl in Leyburn on Sunday.

The £60,000 project has seen the area completely revamped with new equipment suitable for young people of all ages.

Equipment has also been installed which can be used by people with a disability.

A fun day was held on Sunday to mark the reopening of the play area.

The park was officially opened by access campaigner Debbie North, founder of Access The Dales.

During the day, a cheque was presented for £1,000 to the town council from the Paul Curran Celebration Trust.

The trust was set up by Linda and Martin Curran in 2002 following the death of their son, Paul, who succumbed to the disease Friedrich’s Ataxia.

The cheque was presented to Leyburn mayor Richard Sanderson, by trust committee member Joe Willis.

The money will be used to improve other play areas in the town.
