Gardener / Handyman
Private House and Garden – Northallerton
The Role
We are looking for an experienced, practical Gardener/Handyman to support the Property & Garden
Manager with the upkeep and management of a five-acre garden and wider property to the current
high standards.
The garden combines formal areas, lawns, rockeries, a greenhouse, a small kitchen garden and a
modest lake, set around a listed main house and a separate Pool House. This is a hands-on, varied
role for someone who enjoys both grounds work and general maintenance, and who wants to grow
into the Property & Garden Manager role over time.
Key Responsibilities
• General garden and grounds maintenance: grass cutting, strimming, hedge trimming, edging
and seasonal planting
• Care of formal gardens, lawns and rockeries to a high standard year-round
• Management of the greenhouse and kitchen garden, including propagation and seasonal
produce
• Upkeep of the lake and its surrounding margins
• Familiarity with basic plumbing, heating and electrical maintenance, and able to carry out simple
checks and minor repairs across the listed main property alongside professional contractors
• Supporting the upkeep of the Pool House alongside the Property Manager and specialist
contractors
• General handyman duties: minor repairs, painting, tool and equipment maintenance, and site
tidiness
• Liaising with and assisting professional contractors and tradespeople as required
• Deputising for and supporting the Property & Garden Manager, with a view to progressively
taking on more responsibility
About You
• Proven experience in gardening/grounds maintenance and general property or handyman work
• Working knowledge of, or willingness to learn, basic plumbing, heating and electrical
maintenance
• RHS qualification preferred but not essential — practical experience and horticultural knowledge
are what matter most
• Comfortable working around technical equipment such as pool/spa heat pumps and plant, with
proper training
• Physically fit, reliable, and happy working outdoors in all weathers
• A genuine ambition to develop into a Property & Garden Manager role, and a wish to build a
long-term career at the property
• Passionate, strong attention to detail and willingness to get involved with and lend themselves to
anything
• Discrete, trustworthy and personable
• Full, clean driving licence
What We Offer
This is a role for someone seeking longevity and progression rather than a short-term position. The
successful candidate will be supported and mentored by the current Property & Garden Manager,
with genuine scope to grow into that position as they develop their skills and experience.
Location: Northallerton, Yorkshire
Full Time/Part Time: Full-time preferred; 3.5–4 days/week considered initially, increasing as the role develops.
Hours: 08:00 to 16:00 approx.
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Applicants should send their your CV and a short covering letter to scott@catamaranventures.com
