Van and six bikes seized after anti-social riding in Reeth

Police have seized a van and multiple off-road bikes following reports of anti-social riding in Reeth.

Officers were alerted while on patrol to concerns about off-road motorbikes being ridden dangerously and causing a nuisance in Swaledale.

When police arrived in Reeth, three bikes made off towards Fremington Edge. Enquiries with local residents indicated the bikes had been transported to the village in a van, which was parked nearby.

Working with the community, officers were able to monitor the group’s movements and identify when the riders returned to the vehicle and left the area.

Police subsequently stopped the van as it travelled back towards County Durham.

Inside, officers found six off-road motorbikes.

Checks also revealed the van was being driven without insurance.

The vehicle and the bikes were seized.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “We take pride in our beauty spots, and will not tolerate people heading into North Yorkshire, driving anti-socially, and causing a nuisance to people local residents.”

They are urging anyone who witnesses anti-social behaviour to report it.
