Thieves break into vehicles and steal from sheds in Hawes area

Thieves broke into two vans and stole items from sheds and out-buildings in Hawes and Gayle.

The incidents happened on Monday night or early Tuesday morning.

One van was targeted in The Greens in Hawes.

A reversing camera was taken out. A fuse box was also damaged. Police believe this was part of an attempt to steal the vehicle.

Thieves broke into another van, which was broken into previously about a fortnight ago when around a thousand pounds worth of tools were taken.

In another incident a child’s bike and helmet, a hoover and a radio were yaken from a shed.

The child’s mum said her son was autistic and used the bike as a release.

She said he was very upset at the theft.

Police have urged households in the Hawes and Gayle area to check their sheds and outbuildings following the crimes.
