Van thief tries to sell violins stolen in Richmond

A suspected van thief who attempted to sell two expensive violins that were in the back of the vehicle stolen in Richmond is being hunted by police.

The white Ford Transit van, reg-number HV61FTT, belonging to gardener Kate Schindler, was stolen from the Holly Hill pub carpark in Richmond between 8am on Monday 27 August and 7.30am on Tuesday 28 August 2017.

The van had various items of gardening equipment in the rear, along with the two valuable violins.

Kate told Richmondshire Today after the theft: “It was completely full of tools and personal things.

“I’m more concerned about my tools and my partner’s violins than I am about the van. The van can be replaced but everything else is my livelihood.”

On Wednesday 30 August, a man entered JG Williams music store on Blackwell Gate in Darlington where he attempted to sell the violins.

The sale was declined and it is believed he may still be in possession of the instruments.

A CCTV image of the man has been released in an effort to identify and arrest the man.

Anyone with information about the suspect, the van or the violins is urged to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2, and ask for Emma Taylor.
