
A vehicle fire on the A1(M) caused long delays for motorists yesterday.
The blaze occurred on the southbound carriageway near the Barton junction at about 2.40pm.
Fire crews from Richmond, Northallerton, Darlington and Newton Aycliffe attended the incident.
The vehicle, a Range Rover, suffered severe fire, heat and smoke damage.
Crews used hosereels, breathing apparatus, spreaders and thermal imaging cameras.
The cause is believed to be an electrical fault.
The fire caused the carriageway to be closed while emergency services worked at the scene.
