Veterans send food parcel to Richmondshire homeless hostel

Richmondshire’s homeless hostel received an early Christmas present this week when a massive parcel of food was delivered.

Every December veterans and staff from Help for Heroes Recovery Centre, Phoenix House in Catterick, collect food and essential items to donate to a good cause – and this year they chose George Nickling House at Colburn.

The Richmondshire District Council hostel provides accommodation for homeless people in the district.

“We are a charity and people are so generous to us – so every year we like to give something back to the local community,” said Abi Richardson, Help for Heroes events organiser.

“This year we chose the hostel. Many of the wounded veterans, who we support, have themselves experienced homelessness so it’s a cause close to our hearts.

“We took three huge boxes of food and essential goods – all donated by staff and former members of the armed forces.”
