Violin maker opens Richmond music shop

A luthier – someone who builds or repairs string instruments – has opened a shop and workshop in Richmond.

Philip Harrison, better known as Phee, is 33 and comes from Barton.

The former Richmond School pupil has opened Phee’s Music at 10b Frenchgate.

Phee studied guitar making for one year at Leeds College of Music. He then studied miolin making at Newark Violin Making School for four years.

He has been n business as a luthier for the last ten years and moved back to Richmond last year.

Phee specialises in making, restoring and repairing members of the violin family and also offers bow rehairs.

The shop has restored violins etc for sale and also offers a valuation service.

 

Phee said: “I can make you a violin on commission or restore your old one to ‘as new. condition.

“I can also restore violas, cellos and basses. I make pickups for all members of the violin family and can advise on amplification matters.”

The shop is open Tuesday to Saturday 10am to 5pm.
