The virtual Wensleydale Show will take place this bank holiday weekend with the public getting chance of winning a luxury break.

The show will kick off on Saturday morning with the winners announced of the 66 categories across 11 sections, including favourites such as sheep, cattle, handicrafts, novelty, horses, cookery, vintage vehicles and young handlers.

This year, participants have submitted photos and videos of their entries.

A team of judges has selected the section winners, who will each be awarded a £100 prize.

The public will be able to vote from 9am on Saturday to decide the champion of champions, which will be announced at 5pm on bank holiday Monday.

Everyone who votes for the champion will go into a free raffle to win a three-night luxury weekend stay for four people at Aysgarth Lodges in one of their self-catering 5* lodges with hot tub, as well as a family ticket for next year’s show on August 28, 2021.

Wensleydale Agricultural Society, which runs the event held annually in Leyburn on the last Saturday of August, hopes the virtual event will help people learn new skills and put their spare time to good use while the area recovers from the pandemic, while also continuing the show’s tradition of promoting agriculture and nurturing the next generation of farmers.

The main sponsor for the event is the Co-op in Leyburn.

The other sponsors include Aysgarth Lodges, Brymor Ice Cream, Ripon Farm Services, Robin Jessop, Leyburn Auction Mart, Jamesons Feeds, Tim Gibson Ltd, Iveson Steel Products and Bishopton Vets.

The organisers are urging young people who would like to apply for a bursary from the show to apply as soon as possible.
