Votes needed for Woodcraft Warriors scheme

A Richmondshire project which helps veterans is looking for the public support to win funding.

Richmond-based Woodcraft Warriors run by Veterans Woodcraft CIC has been shortlisted in the National Lottery and ITV’s The People’s Projects.

The group is hoping to win the regional contest and receive funding of almost £50,000.

Its entry states: “The project aims to develop into a centre of excellence for the recovery and reintegration into the local community of armed services veterans suffering mental and physical disabilities.

“They will empower individuals by engaging them in woodcraft activities to improve their quality of life and wellbeing.

“They have now expanded the project to wider community.”

The project will be featured on ITV Tyne Tees News at 6pm on Thursday, April 4.

It is one of five to be shortlisted in the region which could win a share of £3m.

The three with the most public votes will receive grants of up to £50,000 to help them to continue their work to bring people together, build stronger communities and make a difference to people’s lives.

Work by the Woodcraft Warriors will be on display at Mackenzie Thorpe’s gallery in Finkle Street, Richmond, from April 5 to 12.
