Walker rescued after fall in Swaledale

Members of Swaledale Mountain Rescue Team came to the aid of a walker in Swaledale today.

An experienced hill walker slipped while descending Gunnerside Gill.

Volunteers from the team said she heard a crack from her lower leg and despite help from her fellow walkers could not continue.

The team responded, reaching the casualty within 25 minutes.

The woman was assessed and treated on the hill before being carried over a kilometre of rough terrain and the dark to a waiting ambulance in Gunnerside.

Steve Clough, SMRT rescue controller, said: “Thank you and Happy New Year to our colleagues from Yorkshire Ambulance Service and North Yorkshire Police who assisted us today.”
