
A walker suffered a fatal suspected cardiac arrest in Swaledale yesterday.
Volunteers from Swaledale Mountain Rescue Team (SMRT) and paramedics were called to the incident at Gunnerside Gill yesterday afternoon.
Sadly, despite the best efforts of passers-by and SMRT team members the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
SMRT rescue controller Steve Clough said: “Our condolences go out to all relatives and friends of the deceased.”
In a separate incident, the SMRT team was called out today after a 71-year-old woman suffered a fall at Hackfall Woods, near Grewelthorpe.
The woman fell a short way down a very steep slope and injured her head and wrist.
Team members secured the casualty while she was treated by Yorkshire Ambulance Service.
Steve Clough said: “She was loaded on to a stretcher secured by ropes and carried to safety before being carried 1,600m to waiting ambulance.
“Our best wishes for a speedy recovery go to the casualty.”
