A man wanted in connection with alleged driving offences and attempting to pervert the course of justice has been arrested.
North Yorkshire Police confirmed that Zafar Iqbal, 56, from Nelson, Lancashire, was arrested on Wednesday, March 25 by officers from the Roads Policing Group.
The arrest follows a public appeal issued earlier this month and was made as a direct result of information received from the public.
The case relates to an incident on July 13, 2025, when a motorcycle was recorded speeding near Hawes by a safety camera unit.
According to police, the rider then stopped and covered the vehicle’s number plate before riding past the camera again.
Subsequent enquiries identified both the motorcycle and the rider as Iqbal.
Officers say he repeatedly attempted to pervert the course of justice by claiming the motorcycle had been sold several years earlier, despite investigations indicating otherwise.
Police had carried out extensive enquiries to locate him and had appealed for information, noting he had links across Lancashire and North Yorkshire.
Iqbal was arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and driving offences and remains under investigation.
