Businesses have been warned about a man selling bike decorations ahead of UCI World Championships.

Richmondshire District Council officers received a query from a local business in Richmond Market Place about a man claiming to be selling bikes on behalf of the council and Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

The man was selling the bikes for £20 and claiming £5 of this would go to the air ambulance charity.

However, when asked to provide a receipt, he was unable to do so.

The council says neither Richmond Town Council, Richmondshire District Council or the Yorkshire Air Ambulance had commissioned anyone to sell decorative bikes to local businesses on its behalf.

Businesses have been urged to be vigilant and watch out for the man in and around the Market Place.
