Waste collections were disrupted by the snow today.

Bin collections were suspended due to the bad weather, meaning some collections were missed.

A spokesperson for Richmondshire District Council said: “Our bin crews have been working hard to try and empty bins this morning.

“Unfortunately due to the bad weather the crews cannot continue with their rounds today and all collections have now been suspended.

“Black/ grey bins due to be collected on Saturday, January 2 will now be collected on Monday, so please leave your bin out until then.

“We are unable to return for uncollected recycling until your next scheduled collection day.

“You are advised to take your recycling to your nearest recycling centre, or place any excess out in carrier bags on your next scheduled day, remembering to keep glass separate.”

  1. This leaves the elderly and disabled , who may not be able to take their recycling to a site, waiting up to 4 weeks between collections. This would be unacceptable to a proper council
