Waste collections were suspended in Richmondshire due to the heat today.

The district council said it took the decision in the interest of staff welfare..

The decision meant some household waste collections were not made in Thoralby, Bishopdale and Newbiggin, and outlying areas in Coverdale.

Any household bins which have not been collected today will be collected tomorrow.

Residents are advised to leave their bins out at the kerbside until they are collected.

Recycling collections were also cancelled in some parts of Catterick Village, Gatherley Road in Brompton-on-Swale, Scotton and Tunstall.

A council spokesperson said: “Unfortunately we are unable to return to collect recycling, so residents are advised to remove their boxes and bags from the kerbside and place them out on their next scheduled collection day when any excess recycling will be taken.

“Please place any extra recycling out in boxes, bags or carrier bags, ensuring that glass is kept separate.”
