Military families who have recently moved to North Yorkshire are being invited to join two walks in Richmondshire aimed at helping them settle into the area.
The Welcome Walks will take place on Monday, August 17 and Monday, August 24, from 11am to 1pm.
They are being organised through Settling in Service North Yorkshire, with support from North Yorkshire Citizens Advice & Law Centre.
Organisers say military families can face particular challenges when moving to a new area, with service life potentially involving frequent relocations and the need to establish new friendships and support networks.
The Richmond walks are intended to provide an informal opportunity for families to meet other recent arrivals while finding out more about the town and local services.
Participants will meet at The Station, Station Yard, Richmond, before heading out together.
A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Citizens Advice & Law Centre said: “Moving somewhere new can be exciting, but it can also take time to feel part of your new community.
“For military families, who may experience moves more regularly, making those local connections can be particularly important.
“Our Welcome Walks are simply about bringing people together. They’re a relaxed opportunity to meet other families, have a chat, discover more about the local area and hopefully start building connections that last beyond the walk itself.”
The events form part of the wider Settling in Service project, which aims to help Armed Forces families establish themselves in North Yorkshire and connect with local services, activities and support.
The project is supported by the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust.
