Wensleydale Chorus appeals for new choristers

Rehearsals have started  for the 37th Wensleydale Chorus summer concerts and the choir are on the look out for new choristers.

The works chosen are Haydn’s Nelson Mass and Schubert’s Mass in G.

They will be performed in the Methodist Hall in Bedale and St John’s Church, East Witton, in July.

Committee member Richard Wells says learning two choral works and then performing them in three months is not as daunting as it sounds.

“We don’t expect you to sing like a pro and we don’t expect you to read music that well either.

“What we do want is people’s enthusiasm. Add that to the expertise and patience of our conductor Stan Roocroft then we reckon come July the choir will sound great.

“Choir membership generally has taken a knock since the covid pandemic but chorus members now reckon it’s time to get out there and make a real effort. We can’t stay inside forever.”

Rehearsals take place on Wednesdays at Leyburn Methodist Church  Hall at 7.30pm.

It’s just off the market square and the postcode is DL8 5BB.

  1. I’m a member and was informed just last week that the concert has unfortunately had to be cancelled.
