Wensleydale cricket club urges shoppers to help fund improvements

A Wensleydale cricket club has been selected as one of the Co-op’s community fund recipients.

Spennithorne and Harmby Cricket Club will be one of the local Leyburn Co-op benefactors of the fund for the next 12 months.

The club says it will use any money received to buy cricket covers, to improve the club’s facilities and help the club beat the rain in the summer and get more games on.

The club is asking local Co-op members to help the club by selecting them as a recipient of their community fund donations.

James Kitchingman, from the club, said: “Covid-19 has seriously affected the club’s finances and the ability to hold fundraisers.

“With a new pavilion built a couple of years ago, finances are tight and the pandemic seriously hasn’t helped our situation.

“The club plays cricket in the Nidderdale cricket league on a Saturday afternoon and in the Wensleydale evening league on a Wednesday and would love to hear from anyone interested in joining the team, either on a playing basis, helping with ground work or by supporting.”
