Wensleydale football club makes donation in memory of local teenager

A football club has made a donation to charity in memory of a local teenager who took his own life.

Carperby Rovers Football Club handed over a cheque for £400 to go to mental health charity Mind.

The money was donated in memory of Carperby teenager James Ashcroft who died in 2019 aged 17.

The money was raised when the club coordinated the car parking at the Wensleydale Show in August.

Nick Oliver, from the club, said: “The show committee paid the club £400 for their efforts and the lads decided that they would give the money to charity.

“After a little thought they decided to give the money to Mind, the mental health charity, in memory of James Ashcroft who lived in Carperby.”

James’ parents Debbie and Mark came to watch the game last weekend and received the cheque from manager Paul Dinsdale.
