
A Wensleydale footballer has signed as a professional for Dutch team PEC Zwolle.
Abby Holmes, who is originally from Redmire, has signed a one-year deal with the women’s Eredivisie team.
The defender previously played for Sunderland AFC Ladies where she scored the winner against Millwall to secure the Premier League title a 2011.

The 26-year-old is taking a year-long sabbatical from her job as a PE teacher to play full-time for the Dutch team.
She told Richmondshire Today she was looking forward to the experience.
“I am on sabbatical from school so have the year out and thought I would have an adventure.
“The last few years have been manic with a mixture school and football so now it’s time to concentrate on my dream – I can’t wait to get started.”
