Wensleydale lose – but celebrate as club fields three senior teams for first time in 25 years

Dale started brightly against promotion hopefuls Goole dominating the game early on with the forwards in control giving centre Jack Reynard the chance to find a gap and sprint away for a try which he converted.

Reynard also hit the post with a penalty before Goole gathered possession giving the strong runners good ball and a score followed by another from a quickly taken tap penalty.

Reynard did kick a penalty keeping Dale in touch, half time score 10 – 12 to the hosts.

Into the second half and wave after wave of attacks kept Dales defence busy and it came as no surprise when Goole galloped away for a score.

More pressure brought a yellow card for Tom Lawson leading to further scores.

Dale worked hard throughout with hooker Mark Dixon and openside Sam Blackburn keeping their team in the hunt backed up by speedy winger James Ashford.

Ashford finished after some good handling put him away only for Goole to score again.

43 – 15 to the hosts was a fair result and Goole gain promotion to Yorkshire 2.

Wensleydale Unicorns ran away winners at home against Yarnbury 4ths 34 – 19 for a three win run.

For the first time in 25 years three teams ran out on the same day.

Wensleydale Rams lost out at Darlington 2nds but the scoreline 24 – 12 wasn’t important at the end of the day.

In October 2012 the club seemed dead and buried with the 1st team bottom of Yorkshire 5.
