A Wensleydale man is fighting for his life after an incident on Saturday night.
George Handley, from Askrigg, is in intensive care after he was found in the road with head injuries.
At around midnight on Saturday, the 22-year-old left the White Rose pub in Askrigg on foot and was found injured a short time later (in the early hours of Sunday) on the road leading to Newbiggin.

In an appeal for information posted on Facebook mum Louise Porter said: “My beautiful boy George is fighting for his life in James Cook Hospital.
“He was found lying in the road on Howgate hill just outside Askrigg on Saturday night around midnight, after being out with friends.”
Louise said he had fractured his skull and has bleeding on the brain, and is in a critical condition.
Louise added: “The fantastic doctors and nurses at James Cook are doing all they can to keep him alive and the next few days are crucial.”
She has appealed for anyone with information on what happened to George to come forward.
She said it may just have been a fall but it is not yet clear what happened.
“Please get in touch with me or North Yorkshire Police if you saw George walking home or if you have any information whatsoever. And lastly please pray for George.”
Inspector Mark Gee, from Richmondshire police, said they were working on the hypothesis that George had fallen, but they needed to be certain and wanted to hear from anyone who had information on the incident.
Police say they need to piece together the man’s movements from leaving Askrigg to being found in the road.
They are appealing to anyone who was in the area around midnight on Saturday night, or was travelling along the Askrigg to Newbiggin road, to contact them.
The road was shut for several hours between Askrigg and Newbiggin on Sunday while police investigated.
George is a well-known and popular local man who plays football for Carperby Rovers in the Wensleydale Football League.
