Wensleydale man in court on firearms and assault charges

A Wensleydale man has appeared in court over firearms and assault charges.

Michael Oughtred, 61, from Penhill Farm, West Witton, appeared before York Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

He admitted ten charge, including assaulting a woman at his home address in March this year.

He also pleaded guilty to eight charges of failing to secure shotguns securely and one of possessing a .22 Winchester rifle without holding a firearms licence for it.

The case was adjourned until next month for a pre-sentence report to be compiled ahead of sentencing.

The defendant was released on unconditional bail.
