The Christmas Polar Express service on the Wensleydale Railway has been cancelled due to Covid-19.

The popular train ride was due to take place on the line during November and December.

However, bosses say they have decided to cancel the service following discussions with the local authorities.

The line said in a statement: “We have worked tirelessly to provide a Covid secure event for your families to enjoy, which we were confident we had achieved.

“Now, however, as a result of consultation with local authorities following the introduction of the new 3 tier system, it has become very clear that a large number of our guests will be unable to travel with us due to households being unable to socialise together, or only being able to undertake essential travel.

“We understand how disappointing this will be for you and your families, but we hope you will want to look forward to a better 2021 and will join us for your magical journey next year.

“We appreciate that there may be many questions and we will endeavour to answer them as soon as we can, but it may take up to five working days to respond to any enquiries or questions.

“If you have booked tickets already you will receive an email detailing the options available.”
