The Wensleydale School managed to stage a prom night for Year 11 pupils despite the restrictions due to the coronavirus.
After consultation with the county council’s public health experts, it was decided the school could go ahead with an outdoor event.
A marquee was duly erected in the school grounds for the prom on Friday.
Headteacher Julia Polley said: “After a very tumultuous year, I am delighted that we managed to give our Year 11s a Covid-safe prom.”
The head said it had been “touch and go for a while” as the guidance kept changing right up until the last minute.
“The students behaved impeccably and I would like to thank all the staff and students at school who helped me make it happen.
“We are also grateful to Fairhursts for the barbecue and Marco Galloni for the ice cream.
“It is the first year in the schools history, that students have held their prom in school and I hope, that due to the successful night, we can make this a new tradition.”
