The halls of The Wensleydale School in Leyburn were transformed into a dazzling prom venue last Friday as students and staff celebrated the end of exams in style.

The evening was organised by the Year 11 prom committee alongside headteacher Julia Polley.

In a change from traditional off-site prom venues, Wensleydale brought the party home by giving their main hall a makeover for students to enjoy following months of hard work and exam prep.

“Hosting the prom at the school allowed us to create a truly special evening while also being cost-effective,” said Julia.

“We wanted to ensure everyone could take part by keeping prom ticket prices affordable.”

The school’s own catering staff prepared a fantastic menu, while a bar served up refreshing non-alcoholic drinks. Local legend DJ Wilko provided the energetic soundtrack that got everybody dancing and there was also a photobooth where students could grab some memories of the occasion.

A highlight of the evening was the entertaining presentation of ‘unofficial awards’ to staff and students, as voted by the students, which kept everybody amused and added to the fun.

“I’d like to extend a huge thank you to everyone involved who made it such a memorable event”, added Julia.

“It was the right decision to bring it in-house, and students commented on how very happy they were and how safe they felt in the school environment. This will continue!”
