Families considering their secondary school options are being invited to find out more about life at Wensleydale School at its annual Open Evening.
The Leyburn school will open its doors to Year 5 and Year 6 pupils and their families on Thursday, September 24.
Visitors will be able to explore the school, meet staff and students and take part in lessons and activities across a range of subjects.
The event follows the school’s recent Ofsted inspection and another summer of good GCSE results, with students maintaining the improved levels of achievement seen in recent years.
Headteacher Julia Polley said: “Choosing a secondary school is an important decision for any family and an Open Evening gives parents and children the chance to get a proper feel for a school.
“We want families to come in, meet us, talk to our students and staff and see what learning at Wensleydale is like.
“We are proud of the fact that we get to know each student, understand what they need to thrive, and give them the right balance of support, encouragement and challenge, alongside high expectations for what they can achieve.”
The evening will begin with a presentation from Mrs Polley about the school’s vision, values and approach to education.
Key Stage 3 Progress Leader Josh Hadfield will then explain how the school supports children making the transition from primary to secondary education and helps new pupils settle into Year 7.
Families will then be able to tour the school and meet teachers and students.
The school said it aims to prepare young people for a range of routes after leaving, including A-levels and university, college, apprenticeships and technical and vocational careers.
Mrs Polley added: “Every child arrives at secondary school with different interests, abilities and ambitions.
“Our job is to help them develop their talents, discover new opportunities and give them the education and support they need for whatever they choose to do next.”
The Open Evening starts at 6pm on Thursday, September 24, with doors opening at 5.45pm.
Wensleydale School says it has been oversubscribed for its past three Year 7 intakes.
Families unable to attend can arrange a personal tour on another school day by contacting Josh Hadfield at joshua.hadfield@wensleydaleschool.net.
