Wensleydale Sunday bus service shortlisted for funding

The 856 bus in Wensley.

The Wensleydale Flyer Sunday bus service between Northallerton, Bedale, Leyburn, Aysgarth and Hawes has been shortlisted for support from LNER’s customer and community investment fund (CCIF).

The bus links upper Wensleydale with the county town and railhead at Northallerton.

LNER’s annual £500,000 CCIF supports charities, customers and the communities along the LNER route between London, Yorkshire and Scotland.

The Wensleydale Flyer bus service is managed by Dales and Bowland Community Interest Company, part of local charity Friends of the Dales.

A spokesperson said: “It is a popular service, but requires ongoing financial support from donations and other sources to continue providing a year-round service.

“Over the winter months the service is being partly supported by contributions from local North Yorkshire county councillors via the Locality Fund, but further support is needed to keep the service running from Easter 2023.”

An online public vote is now underway until October 23 to help decide which of the shortlisted projects will receive funding
