Flowers, gardens and community spirit will take centre stage in Wensleydale this weekend as churches and villagers come together for a celebration of floral displays and open gardens.
Visitors will have the chance to enjoy two flower festivals alongside the popular annual Open Gardens event in Carperby over the weekend of 27–29 June.
At St Andrew’s Church, Aysgarth, the flower festival, titled All Things Bright and Beautiful, celebrates two important milestones – the 20th anniversary of the Penhill Benefice and the 55th anniversary of the Wensleydale Flower Club.
The colourful displays have been created by members of the Benefice churches and the Wensleydale Flower Club, showcasing a wide range of floral arrangements inspired by the festival’s theme.
The festival is open from 10am to 5pm on Friday, Saturday and Monday, with Sunday afternoon opening also available. Admission is free, although donations are welcome.
Meanwhile, St Matthew’s Church, Stalling Busk, is hosting its own flower festival, The Colours of Creation, from 10am to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday. As well as the floral displays, visitors can enjoy refreshments and try their luck on the tombola.
On Sunday, the picturesque village of Carperby will once again throw open its gates for its annual Open Gardens event. Many residents are taking part, offering visitors the opportunity to explore gardens of all shapes and sizes, with plant sales available at some locations.
The gardens will be open from 11am until 4pm, with tickets priced at £5 for adults, while accompanied children under 16 can enter free. Tickets will be available from the Village Institute and the village green.
Refreshments will be served in the Village Institute throughout the day, with proceeds supporting the upkeep of the community building. Organised car parking will also be available for visitors.
