Wild swim fundraiser smashes ice to continue challenge

Fundraiser Susan Baty-Symes.

A charity fundraiser did not let a frozen river stop her from continuing her wild swimming challenge.

Susan Baty-Symes, from Healaugh, has challenged herself to complete 100 wild swims before her birthday.

She had hoped to complete her latest swim at Wain Wath Force on the River Swale at the weekend, but found the river frozen over.

Refusing to be beaten, she hammered a hole in the ice before taking a dip.

Friends on social media suggested Susan was slightly bonkers but the wild swimmer was undeterred by the cold and has now completed her 40th swim.

It wasn’t quite a swim… rather a dip today, but I made it in for number 40
