Woman cut free by firefighters after car crashes on icy road

Wood Lane, near Spennithorne.

A young driver was injured last night after she lost control in icy conditions.

The 20-year-old had to be cut free from the vehicle by firefighters following the crash in Wood Lane, near Spennithorne, at about 9pm.

The vehicle ended up on its side.

The woman suffered chest injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Firefighters from Leyburn and Masham attended and removed the roof of the vehicle to free the motorist.

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Crew were mobilised to a report of a road traffic collision with a vehicle on its side and a person trapped.

“A vehicle had lost control in icy conditions.

“Crews used hydraulic cutting gear to extricate one female from vehicle.”
