Woman freed by firefighters after being hit by van in Hawes

Hawes market place.

A woman had to be freed by firefighters after being hit by a van in Hawes today.

The incident occurred at around 11.15am this morning in the Market Place and involved a white Mercedes Sprinter van and an elderly woman pedestrian.

Police closed the road while paramedics attended to the woman and the fire service freed her from under the van.

Fire crews from Leyburn and Hawes attended the scene.

She was then taken to hospital by ambulance.

The woman was conscious and breathing when she was taken to hospital by ambulance.

It is understood her injuries are not life threatening.

The incident happened on market day in the down.

The scene was clear by 2pm.

Witnesses to the collision are asked to call North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 1, and speak to the Force Control Room.
