Work has finally started on a new £1.2 million headquarters and specialist facility for Richmond charity Just the Job following several years of fundraising.
The charity’s BIG Green Build will create a new eco-friendly base and gardens for the activities it provides for vulnerable adults.
Just the Job, which is based at Gallowfields Trading Estate in Richmond, has already raised almost £850,000 towards the ambitious project through grants and donations from the local community and national organisations.
Construction is expected to take 41 weeks.
Steve Biggs, general manager at Just the Job, said reaching the construction stage had been a major milestone following years of work.
“It is amazing to finally get started,” he said.
“It’s taken a lot of hard work and some worrying moments as costs have increased so rapidly in the last few years.
“Everyone is very excited to see the progress.”
The charity said the project had received significant support from individuals and organisations, including Robin Dundas, the Marquess of Zetland, Zetland Estates and the National Lottery Community Fund.
Mr Biggs added: “I need to say a big thank you to everyone who has supported us to get this far.
“We couldn’t have done it without such generosity.”
However, the fundraising effort is not over.
Although construction is now underway, the charity says further money will be needed to complete and equip the new headquarters, including decorating, kitchens, furniture and specialist toilet facilities.
Simon Eastwood, community fundraiser for Just the Job, said: “Having already raised nearly £850,000 towards the project, we will still need further funds to turn the building into a welcoming and workable facility for our team members to thrive and enjoy.”
The charity is therefore appealing for further donations as well as support from local businesses which may be able to contribute to the project in other ways.
Donations can be made through Just the Job’s fundraising page, while businesses interested in supporting the scheme can contact Mr Biggs on 01748 822815.
