Yorkshire Water is to begin work in the Upper Dales to lay 4km of new water mains.

The water company is investing over a million pounds in the Hawes area as part of ongoing work to strengthen the existing network and protect the water supply of the future.

A significant amount of work was due to take place in early 2021, however, when November’s national lockdown was announced the company made the decision to bring the works forward in order to reduce the impact on local businesses.

Mark Allsop, customer liaison advisor at Yorkshire Water, said: “We’re working closely with the North Yorkshire County Council to make sure that work to instate the new pipes causes as little disruption as possible.

“In order to complete the updates, our team will be working in the centre of Hawes, so that we can do as much work as possible before lockdown ends to minimise disruption to the many retail and hospitality businesses in the area.”
