Yarn bombers strike in Hawes

Yarn bombers have struck in Hawes with a Mad Hatters Tea Party-themed installation.

The artwork was created outside the Board Inn by the local knit and natter group, Hawes-Close-KNIT-Friends who meet every Tuesday afternoon in the pub.

The idea was to celebrate the bicentennial of the original illustrator of Alice in Wonderland, Sir John Tenniel.

It is only the group’s second foray into yarn bombing.

Fiona Gill, from the group, said: “The knitting group of eight local ladies hope to make both locals and visitors smile and raise money for local charities.

“It’s also their way of saying ‘thank you’ to the landlady and landlord Ann and Colin for hosting the group all year round, even during their busiest trading times.

“There is always a table reserved for us.”
