Young musicians invited to take part in area heat for national contest

Wensleydale Rotary Club is working with BlueBoxt Creative and Performing Arts in Leyburn to hold the Wensleydale area heat of the Rotary National Young Musician of the Year competition.

The contest is open to young people aged seven to 18 years who live or attend school in North Yorkshire or close to the county boundary.

There are three classes split into two age groups.

The first is for an instrumentalist or vocalist playing acoustically accompanied by a pianist of by themselves.

The second is for an instrumentalist or vocalist playing with amplification accompanied by a backing track of themselves.

The third category is for an ensemble or group, two or more performers playing acoustically or amplified.

The two winners of class one will be eligible to progress on to the Rotary District Final to be held in St John’s Church, Sharrow.

The national final will be held at Chathams School of Music, Manchester.

The heat is being held at St Mathew’s Church in Leyburn on Saturday, December 2, with the competition starting at 10.30am.

Attendance at the event is free.

Members of the public are encouraged to attend to give support and encouragement, refreshments will be available.

If this year’s event is a success then it’s hoped that is that it will become an annual event.
