Young performers from across Richmondshire and the surrounding area are preparing to bring Roald Dahl’s Matilda to the stage this autumn.
Richmond Operatic Society Juniors will perform Matilda Jr during the October half term, with six performances planned at Influence Church.
The production will feature a cast aged between ten and 18 and will be the first show staged by the newly-established youth section of Richmond Operatic Society.
The group was created to give local children and teenagers the chance to get involved in musical theatre while developing their confidence, creativity and performance skills.
Based on Roald Dahl’s children’s book, Matilda Jr follows the story of a young girl who discovers she has the power to change her own story.
The musical features songs including Naughty, When I Grow Up, Quiet and Revolting Children.
The cast is currently rehearsing the singing, dancing and acting for the production, which will also feature scenery, costumes, lighting and projections.
Director Victoria Bennett said: “We are incredibly excited to be bringing Matilda Jr to the stage with our first group of Richmond Operatic Society Juniors.
“We have such brilliant young people, who are all throwing themselves into the production – it has been wonderful watching their confidence grow throughout rehearsals.”
