Final preparations are underway as hundreds of young dancers get ready to take to the stage for this year’s Icons of Music performances.
Students from The Rhythm and Shoes Dance Academy will perform at Richmond’s Georgian Theatre on Sunday, June 21, and Sunday, June 28, showcasing a wide range of dance styles in two weekends of entertainment.
Among the performers will be some of the academy’s youngest members, aged just five and six, who will be making their theatre debut.
For many of them, it will be their first experience of performing in front of a live audience, making the occasion particularly special for both the children and their families.
The shows promise something for all ages, with routines inspired by iconic music and featuring tap, ballet, musical theatre, street dance, contemporary dance and acrobatics.
Although both performances share the Icons of Music title, organisers say each weekend will feature different choreography and performances, giving audiences a unique experience.
The academy has built a strong reputation in the local community, working closely with schools, nurseries and local businesses while providing a welcoming environment for aspiring dancers.
Many students have been attending classes for several years, with long-lasting friendships forming through their shared passion for dance.
The academy has also paid tribute to the many volunteers who help make its productions possible.
Special thanks have been given to backstage helpers, chaperones, parents, guardians and family members whose support enables students to enjoy opportunities to perform on stage.
Organisers said the dedication of volunteers is invaluable and plays a key role in ensuring the productions run smoothly.
While attention is firmly focused on this month’s performances, plans are already underway for future events and opportunities for members of the Rhythm and Shoes family.
