Fund launched to help Richmondshire residents keep their homes warm

A new fund to help Richmondshire residents warm up their homes has been launched.

The district council scheme will help residents install insulation, brand new A-rated boilers, and first time central heating for free.

It will help qualifying residents improve the energy efficiency of their homes and reduce their fuel bills – and focus on householders who have high energy bills in relation to their income.

The ECO Flex Energy Improvement Scheme funding is made up of a £52,000 grant from the district council and fund secured by YES Energy Solutions from major energy companies through the Government’s Energy Company Obligation (ECO) Scheme.

Residents can qualify for funding through a range of criteria, which includes receiving means tested benefits or being on a low household income with high energy bills.

Elderly residents, those with a young family, pregnant women or residents with a health condition made worse by the cold, could also qualify for funding.

Councillor Philip Wicks said: “This scheme is a fantastic opportunity for Richmondshire residents to improve the energy efficiency of their home – and live in warmer and cosier homes this winter by making their fuel bills more affordable.

“The launch of this scheme will help householders prepare for winter with a range of measures while reducing their contribution to climate change.”

Installations will be completed through YES Energy Solutions’ network of accredited local contractors.

The scheme – which is being managed by YES – is on a first come first served basis and residents who think that they may qualify are advised to call YES Energy Solutions on 01422 880100.
